7:10: "America doesn't care about politics [within Congress]." True, true.
7:11: "The question tonight is whether we can stop the political circus and do something about the economy:\" Well said.
7:12: He seems like he is staying on top of the game and congress: "You should pass this [the bill] right away."
7:12: "Everything in this bill will be paid for." BINGO- points for Obama.
7:15: He really seems to be pushing points that will appeal to a lot of people. Receiving much applause by what appears to be everyone in Congress.
7:16: I'm sure Construction workers are all for this bill.
7:17: Standing ovation, Obama mentions education and China, two things I LOVE to write about.
7:18: Do I hear boos?
7:18: Mentions the fact that both parties have supported like bills in the past. Another point to Obama.
7:20: Pushing tax credits for this and that. The question is: will it help the economy, or will it hurt it?
7:21: "Tax Cut". DO I STILL HEAR BOOS FROM REPUBLICANS?
7:23: Moving on, he now talks about stabilizing our debt, deficit reduction, and long-term plans.
7:24: "We are spending too fast to support the system [medicare/caid]." That is exactly what everyone knows... I will never see a dime of those taxes."
7:25: Tax raises for the wealthy, mentions Warren Buffett and his tax rate being lower than a secretary.
7:26: Up and down, up and down, up and down. Do they play games while listening to a speech or something?
7:31: "Made in America" something to write about tomorrow? Hmmm....
7:35: "I reject the idea that we have to strip away collective bargaining rights to compete in the global economy." ARE YOU LISTENING, WISCONSIN?
7:36: Rocking the Lincoln.
7:38: I like Biden's tie. Nice color.
7:38: Biden's tie is crooked
7:38: DOES IT MATCH MICHELLE'S SHIRT/DRESS?
7:39: "This plan is designed to meet the urgent needs..."
7:39: Mentions the election, this could be a bad move on his part because of the people who think that this is a re-election speech.
7:41: Quoting Kennedy. A better move would be to quote Reagan.
Fin of Jobs Speech.
Overall, I thought it was a pretty moving speech... hold on.
Now they are talking about the following:
Three or more individuals have entered this country intending to steal trucks and rig them to attack Washington with bombs around the September 11th anniversary. Trucks have been reported missing and the persons in question are in fact already in this country.
Keep watching the news for further updates about the truck bombers.
Back to the speech, I think that Obama did a good job in his speech and nailed several key points that I believe Americans were looking for. I think he did slip on one or more occasions. I think he made a mistake mentioning the election though he did cover his reasons very nicely. I also think a Reagan quote, even if it was about hot dogs, it would have appealed to the Republican party, whom I think he angered by mentioning tax increases for the wealthy, another mistake.
If he wants this bill passed quickly he has to appeal to the right wing. There's no question that they will be much harder to win over than Democrats and since they already believe that this is just a second stimulus (failure included), they will be difficult to convince, though I think if they balk, they will be committing political suicide.
Republicans realize that America is not happy with Congress. Acting like an *** on this bill might switch America off totally, since the GOP has been titled as "the party of no". They need to show that they are working with Obama, not against him. This bill is the crucial one.
So, vote in the polls and tell us what you thought of the speech!
